3 Tips For Improving Your Brand This Year
Not long ago I began working with one of my original web design and digital marketing clients to boost his Google ranking. Oh how times have changed. Building a brand online has become a bit more complex, but more authentic at the same time. For today, I’m focusing on three tips to improve your brand online through search engine optimization, or SEO.
Every few months, Google updates its search algorithms. They become more intelligent, refined and harder to manipulate. But the great news is, there’s still opportunity to make a big impact on your results in a short period of time. Here’s what I’ve been doing…
1. Content
Content is King. Long gone are the days of stuffing web pages with meta tags and keywords. The best way to improve your ranking on Google is with quality, relevant and timely content. There’s no real trick or way to manipulate it anymore. Google understands quality writing and your site should have it. Ultimately if Google’s end user experience fails, so will its business. So it’s in its best interest to provide the right results for end users. To do this, Google uses artificial intelligence to weed out and penalize bad, manipulating code from content that is genuinely useful. The cream will float to the top!
2. Backlinks
What in the world are backlinks? In a nutshell, they are the other websites on the internet that point to your site. Remember that the internet is a network. Google reviews where your website is linked from and measures the quality and relevancy of those websites in relationship to yours. No backlinks? Well, your site must not be that important. You can help create quality backlinks by reaching out to your customers, suppliers and other related businesses and asking them to review you or recommend you on Google and on their website. Write a guest blog post for them that provides useful information for their customers that links back to your website. Make connections.
3. Local
One thing that’s changed drastically since the launch of the iPhone in 2007 is the emphasis on Local Search. The key for improving your local search is to combine the first two tips – quality content that mentions your location and quality, local backlinks. Finally, it’s important to work with Google to build a “My Business” page and listing. You can get started here… https://www.google.com/business
There are lots of other ways to improve your search results, but these are the top three most time effective methods for Google’s AI-driven modern algorithms. After implementing these tips and digging even deeper, I had target keywords for my client go from the 8th page of Google Search Results to page one in just a few weeks.
